Painting on Fiberglass

Fiberglass
Fiberglass consists of fine glass fibers cast into epoxy, resin, vinyl ester, or a thermoplastic. This material is prized for its incredible strength-to-weight ratio.
Before painting, degrease the surface with isopropyl alcohol and lightly scuff-sand the coating to improve adhesion. Clean again with isopropyl alcohol to remove the dust from sanding.
Acrylics and oils can be painted directly on this surface or on top of your choice of ground coating. For the best adhesion, apply a commercial bonding primer first.
Any of our Gesso & Grounds, Gels & Pastes, and most of our Fluid Mediums can be applied to alter the absorbency, durability, or texture of the surface.
For watercolors, apply a commercial bonding primer followed by one of our three QoR Watercolor Grounds for a bright white absorptive surface.
For dry media like PanPastel, apply a commercial bonding primer followed by a textured ground or paste for improved tooth.
