Painting on Acrylic Sheeting

Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), known by the trade names Crylux, Plexiglas, Acrylite, Lucite, and Perspex is among several transparent thermoplastics often used in sheet form as a shatter-resistant alternative to glass

Prepare by cleaning with mild soap and water.  Light abrasion may be necessary to improve adhesion.

PMMA is an excellent choice for acrylic painting.  No size or ground is needed. Allow at least a couple weeks for the paint to fully adhere to the PMMA.

For work in oils, watercolors, and dry media, apply one of our Gesso & Grounds or Gels & Pastes to alter the surface’s absorbency and/or texture.

For watercolors, we typically recommend applying Gesso followed by one of our three QoR Watercolor Grounds for a bright white absorptive surface.

For dry media like PanPastel, we recommend applying a textured ground or paste for improved tooth.
