Hand-Painting 3D Prints with Acrylics

Hand-Painting 3D Prints with Acrylics

3D Prints are created from filaments, resins, or powders in a variety of machine types. A wide array of postprocessing techniques are commonly utilized for assembling or altering the appearance of finished prints.

For the best results, follow feedstock and/or printer manufacturer’s instructions for postprocessing and painting. Particular plastic adhesion promoters or feedstock-specific primers may be necessary. Please see the article linked below for more information. After a suitable primer, any of our Gesso & Grounds, Gels & Pastes, and most of our Fluid Mediums can be applied to alter the absorbency, durability, or texture of the surface. For watercolors, we typically recommend applying Gesso followed by one of our three QoR Watercolor Grounds for a bright white absorptive surface. For dry media like PanPastel, we recommend applying a textured ground or paste for improved tooth.

A protective varnish or topcoat with UVLS can help protect print materials susceptible to UV degradation. Article: Hand-Painting 3D Prints with Acrylics
