February 03, 2025

Golden Artist Colors announces the recent promotions of two longtime employees, Ulysses Jackson and Nathaniel Smith.  Jackson has been promoted to Director of Research and Development, and Smith is the new Director of Sales, Inventory and Operational Planning.

Jackson has been with the company since 2004, and most recently fulfilled the role of Senior Formulator.  Throughout his tenure at GOLDEN, Jackson has been essential in testing and developing innovative paint technologies.  He is a recipient of a U.S. Patent for the development of QoR® Artist Watercolors, which use an exclusive Aquazol® binder.

In his new role as Director of Research and Development (R&D), Jackson oversees all lab functions, including R&D, Product Development, and the Custom Lab.  He leads a team of formulators responsible for developing new formulations and testing protocol, and will also direct the research and investigation efforts regarding potential new paint materials and technologies.  As both a scientist and a professional artist, Jackson offers unique insights into new product development, and will be instrumental in driving the continued pursuit of new discoveries within the paint and coatings raw materials industry.

Jim Hayes, Technical Director, shared, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Ulysses throughout his career at GOLDEN and have witnessed his passion and dedication to the work we do.  His new role is well deserved, and I have no doubt that our R&D efforts will continue to be fruitful under his direction.”

Nathaniel Smith, who was formerly the Sales and Operational Planning Manager, has been with the company since 2016, and is the past Chair of the ESOP Committee.

In his new role as Director of Sales, Inventory and Operational Planning (SIOP), Smith oversees all functions within the SIOP process, including: master data governance; project management; forecasting, demand planning, and inventory; and production planning and scheduling.  Smith is responsible for creating an atmosphere of analytical integrity by improving the predictive accuracy of demand plans, proactively managing inventory, and using analytics to develop systems that optimize processes and organize information.  His knowledge and experience in statistical analysis, long-term planning, and creating solutions for complex problems ensures the continued success of the SIOP department and the company as a whole.

“Nathaniel’s proven success in leading the Sales and Operational Planning team made him a natural fit for this new role,” stated President and COO Barb Schindler.  “His position serves as the company catalyst for change, and his analytical approach will surely lead to streamlined processes and more proactive data management.”

Jackson holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of South Florida.  He currently resides in Morris, N.Y., where he maintains his studio and practice.

Smith holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
