Judith Linhares 'Flora and Fauna' Exhibition Sam & Adele Golden Gallery

'Flora and Fauna' is an exhibition of selected works by painter Judith Linhares, opening at The Sam & Adele Golden Gallery – the SAGG – at Golden Artist Colors, Inc., 188 Bell Road, New Berlin, NY. The show will be on view from September 19th, 2015 through December 11th, 2015.  There is a reception for the artist from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 19th.

Painter Judith Linhares has exhibited widely since the 1960s.  She was featured in the influential 1978 'Bad Painting' exhibition curated by Marcia Tucker at the New Museum in NYC.  Linhares has received numerous awards including three from the National Endowment for the Arts, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship and the Pollock Krasner Foundation Award, among others.

Linhares’ oeuvre is developed around three major themes: figuration, animals, and flowers.  In 'Flora and Fauna' we have focused on exhibiting her animal and flower paintings.  The creatures and plants in her paintings become resilient entities that engage Linhares’ interest in mythology and folklore. Both modes of her painterly exploration add much to the long and storied history of the depiction of animals and flowers in painting.
