The split primary mixing palette in this set uses both a warm and cool variant of each primary, allowing artists to mix an extensive range of colors. Mixing primaries that are biased toward each other results in cleaner, brighter colors. For instance, mixing the warm reddish-blue Phthalo Blue (Red Shade) with the cool blueish-red Quinacridone Magenta results in a vibrant violet, while mixing Phthalo Blue (Red Shade) with warm, yellowish-red Naphthol Red Light results in a more muted maroon.
