ALI CAVANAUGH
PORTRAIT COLORS SET

Image is produced on Ampersand Aquaboard.

QoR Artist Watercolors introduces new colors for a lush, luminous life!

Ali Cavanaugh’s portraits capture more than the delicate features of a person. Her paintings transcend and reveal something deeper, a tender (or meaningful) presence in the human person. The layering techniques demonstrated in her work breathe life into her subjects and create a deep and luminous aura that captivates viewers.

With these six colors you will find the ideal palette for achieving the effect that distinguishes Ali’s work from traditional watercolor portraiture.

This mixing chart introduces the mixing possibilities of the six colors in this set. Each color is diluted into water and either shown by itself or blended with another color in the set. The top row and left column, as well as the diagonal from upper left to lower right, show individual colors diluted into water. The other painted squares show a mix of 2 colors plus water.

Follow a row across and then the column up to see which two colors are in a mix. The squares beneath the diagonal show a darker wash of the mixture, and the squares above show a more diluted wash of the mixture. Although an attempt was made to make each square a visually equal balance of the two mixed paints, color shift sometimes occurs during drying. This chart begins to show the wide and exciting range of mixes possible with this palette of colors. We encourage  you to explore.

Watch Ali's palette come to life as she presents these six luminous colors. The Pyrrole Orange and Nickel Azo Yellow are the best combination for sun kissed?or golden hour skin tones. The Sap Green and Perylene Crimson are the perfect combination?for any skin that is in shadow and skin that is darker. Payne's Gray is the perfect alternative to black to achieve the deepest darks in the portrait. The best thing about the Payne's Gray is that when it's combined?with all of the other colors, it never gets muddy or dull. The Ultramarine Turquoise is Ali’s signature color.
