Color Mixing with PanPastel

The PanPastel color range offers a selection of pre-mixed colors from tints and shades to lights, mediums and extra darks (full range shown below). Uniquely for pastel color, they can also be mixed like paint for a complete painting palette. 


Color Range Explained

Colors can be mixed either on the pan surface or on the working surface (paper). Mix colors like paint to create intermediate colors.

Panpastel Colorrange

The PanPastel color range includes Pure Color and corresponding Extra Dark and Shade as well as Light, Medium and Tint colors.
Indicated by item codes as follows:

Extra Dark: xxx.1 and xxx.2 (Pure Color with more Black added)
Shade: xxx.3 (Pure Color with Black added)
Pure Color:
xxx.5
Medium: xxx.6 (Pure Color with Titanium White added)
Light: xxx.7 (Pure Color with more Titanium White added)
Tint: xxx.8 (Pure Color with more Titanium White added)

Mixing - Mix colors like paint to create intermediate colors. (Note: Traditional color mixing rules apply. Do not overblend to avoid “mud".)

Double Load Colors

Multiple Loading - Try double or triple loading Sofft Tools for mixing.


Application Techniques

Easy to control. Achieve a variety of marks & layers from transparent to intense.

Layering thin colors

Glazing - Apply thinner layers & glazing layers for colors underneath to show through. Several layers can be applied without flooding the paper’s “tooth”.

Mixing Opaque Colors

Layering - Colors can also be applied in heavier layers on textured papers for more opaque effects.

Blending - Blend colors from the same color family. (Example above: Blending with Phthalo Blue [560] Extra Dark, Shade, Pure and Tint.)
